DL380 not able to access via ping/ssh

I have a DL380 (RHEL 5.3) where I'm unable to ping/ssh the server from the network. When I connect to the machine via iLO, I simply ping (from the server) any number of available gateways or other IPs and all ping/ssh activity is restored.

Has anyone witnessed any similar behavior? Any tips/tricks on how I can troubleshoot the problem? Thanks for your assistance.

try changing the patch cable from ilo to the nic of the server to isolate cable issue.

post the output of ifconfig -a

Are you running a firewall blocking all incoming ICMP?

If you can ping out, and everything is restored, it almost sounds like an ARP problem. As mentioned before, post your "ifconfig -a", your "route -n", and your "arp -a"

I agree with Thomas: sounds like a possible IP address conflict or other ARP problem.

If you can access the gateways, get their ARP table while your server is inaccessible. Find the entry for your IP address and look at the corresponding MAC address. Does it match the MAC address of your server's network interface?

If it doesn't match, use this (or any other MAC address/manufacturer lookup site) to find the manufacturer of the conflicting device:
http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/

If you're using manageable switches, the switch administrator might be able to access the switch and find out which switch port the MAC address is connected to. After that, just follow the cable to find the conflicting device. If you find another switch, "lather, rinse and repeat".
