Hello,
I have a RedHat AS2.1 server, patched to 2.4.9-e.27. Our sysadmin backups the server's operating system files (EXT3 file system) to tape weekly through OmniBack from another HP-UX 11.0 server.
Each time after the OS backup, lots of free memory on the Linux server is cached and not released quickly.
Has anyone use such method to backup Linux server and get any memory issue?
Usually, how to do a better Linux server backup?

Thanks,
Chen

Omniback is a known heavy memory user. That does help it get the backups done faster.

You might try mondo for backups, but you'll need a local tape drive or something.

SEP

Haven't tried veritas yet, but quite a lot of configuration difficulties are reported on it... and very few documentation either...

hth

J
