When the proliant had windows 2000 Server, the noise of fans was quiet, but now the proliant has Linux Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 and the noise of the fans is louder.
I want a Linux software that control the fans like Windows.

Thanks for advance
I do not believe this is a software issue. HP/Compaq has a full suite of tools for Linux, install tham and see what you can do.

The fans probably got noisy because their bearings wore out, in which case you should have the server serviced and possibly replace the fans.

SEP

Actually SEP, he is right. The fans in the ML and DL series run at high-speed until software tells them to shut-the-hell-up!

This sucks by the way.

The BIOS has a settnig or 'high' or 'low', of which is honered, but 'low' is damn loud (not sure what RPMS they are doing in the different speeds).

Install the 'hpasm' packages for RHAS2.1, the fans will become quite, soft little darlings..

Hi,

In fact upon installation of hpasm, Proliant-specific modules (drivers) are to be built to match the running kernel version. To do this, one needs the relevant kernel headers and possibly sources.

I guess you are currently running kernel 2.4.9-e.3 (check version with "uname -r").

If so, you should at least install kernel-headers package, and possibly kernel-source also.

Good luck

Kodjo
