I have a HP Mini 1000 Linux o/s netbook that runs fine from a fixed IP signal on my lan.

I cannot find the HOW TO on how to set up a file that I can setup and switch to for using the netbook running Linux from a wireless pick up point such as a starbucks or a university etc. Most of these use DHCP I believe to give out IP points.
The PDF only talks about tearing the Mini 1000 apart. Where can I find the instructions.
The CD that comes with the unit is useless since the Mimi does not come with a cd rom.

We do not have any Windows PC's if that is what you need to view the CD that came with the unit. It gives no info as what the cd will play on.

Thanks for your help.

Al Plant,
Honolulu.

Shalom,

Well the system works on a network with a fixed IP.

You can mount it on a windows or Linux system and then share it to provide access on the software contents to the HP Mini 1000.

Before you go to far down the Linux road with this system there are a number of systems, especially network devices that don't have Linux drivers.

What you will have to do is identify the maker of the Wireless card in this case and hunt for drivers or pseudo drivers.

I've found Ubuntu's hardware support for wireless to be the best among the distributions.

SEP

Aloha,

I understand what you are saying. The wireless card works fine. This Ubuntu is ok. I need to find out how to use the wireless for outside my lan.

I have created back up files of the local IP settings for my lan wireless beacuse they get wiped out if I use the wireless finder on this box.

So do I just go sit some where with a wireless service and try the automatic feature and see if a wireless comes up and will connect to my Mini?

If I go to a hotel with in room wired lan how do I set that up to work on an HP mini?

Most of these wireless and wired services use dhcp I think. Will this work automatically.
