Do you have some special requirement that dictates the use of CIPE?

If you need a VPN solution, why not use soemthing like OpenVPN or Openswan.

Hi!

I am installing RHEL5 server. I want to install a VPN (Virtual private network) using the CIPE. I was surprise when i found out that there is no available device type named CIPE on the Network Interfaces. I also tried to install CIPE in RPM formats in order to add on such device, but still the device was not added to the list of Network Devices.

With this, i want to ask some how to install CIPE on RHEL 5 so that i can configure my VPN.

Thanks in advance.

God Bless

By CIPE, do you mean this thing?

http://sites.inka.de/bigred/devel/cipe.html

By installing the RPM, you've added the software to your system, but you haven't started it yet.

Starting CIPE requires loading a kernel module that matches the CIPE encryption scheme you wish to use, and starting the CIPE daemon.

Please see chapter 2.6, "Running CIPE" in the CIPE manual:

http://sites.inka.de/bigred/devel/cipe.html#SEC13

Also, please run "rpm -qd
MK

Thanks to your reply....But as of now i shift to CentOS 5 from RHEL 5 because i can't update my RHEL 5 due to lack of Installation Number.

As of now, Im running CentOS 5.4 with the kernel 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5xen. I tried to instal CIPE 1.6 using the ./configure command, unfortunately, i was not able to install because of Unsupported Kernel Version Error. I downloaded and installed the rpm of cipe-1.6.0-1.i686.rpm, but still it has a Failed Dependencies on Libcrypto.so.4.... So i tried to command rpm -ivh cipe-1.6.0-1.i686.rpm --nodeps, and it was successful.

At prompt, i command neat to load the GUI of the Newtork... Still i cant find the CIPE on the List of Device Type. And when i command ifconfig -a .... there is no cipcb0 interface loaded.

How to install and load this CIPE on Kernel 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5xen of CentOS 5.4?
(If possible, please tell me step by step.)

Is there any patch that will allow CIPE run on Kernel 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5xen?

Hope there are masters that can help me with this.

Thank you in advance.
