Rick,

I have never used Brocade switches but I would guess that if you explicitly set the port to fabric and 1GB then that is what your QL HBA's would negotiate. That is pretty much what we do on our SAN but with different hardware.

Hi all:

Here is what I have:
Dell PowerEdge 1650 server
RH 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7
QuickLogic HBA card
Brocade Silkworm 2800

Question - I was told that these QLogic cards will negotiate a link with the Brocades. This link could be quickloop - I do not want quickloop. I am wondering if is possible to hardcode the HBA link so it is fabric mode at 1 GB only - I do not want any negotiating to happen.

Many thanks!

Unfortunately, going by the information on the QLogic webiste (http://www.qlogic.com/support/os_detail.asp?productid=112&osid=26), it doesn't appear as if it is possible to limit the speed of the interface.

Isn't it possible to force hte Silkworm to use a lower connect rate? I have to admit that after a quick look at the Silkworm's manual, I'm out of my depth ;)

My experience with this under any OS is you can't change those parameters. The OS/hardware combination gets what it gets from the san or the switch.

We use qlogic cars on your winblows boxes and thats what the admin tells me.

SEP
