NC510 NIC Driver Under SLES

I've got an NC510 NIC in a DL385, running SLES10 SP1 64 bit.

I've downloaded the latest driver (3.4.263) and installed it, and it appears to install fine. I modified /etc/modprobe.conf.local to include the line:

alias eth2 nx_nic

and then rebooted. But I don't get any new ethernet devices (as listed by ifconfig -a)
If I manually modprobe -r nx_nic and then "modprobe nx_nic" /var/log/messages just reports:

"nx_nic: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag." (Which isn't totally surprising.

In /proc/net I get an "nx_nic" directory, but nothing in it.

In YaST->Hardware Information, under "Network Card" I can see "Intel Ethernet Controller", but under "Network Interfaces" I see nothing for this card.

What do I need to do to get my NIC to work ? I'm guessing modprobe.conf is wrong, but I don't know what to do to fix it.

Hi,

Go to Yast..
Select n/w cfg--->select the ethernet device and accept it and create the device name ethO w.r.t the available ethernet card.Then set the mask,default gw,nameserver and don't forget to stop the fire wall in security settings.
Then see ifconfig is showing the interface.

Shalom,

You are missing the obvious.

The NIC card is probably no good.

Try another one and see if it works.

Everything you did seems reasonable except the Novell message which seems to indicate the card is not supported.

If the card is not supported don't bother with it. If the card is supported its probably just bad.
