I have a Dell latitude 505 running SuSE 10.0 and I have wireless network communication !
This has nothing to do with HP, but it prooves that it is possible, right out of the box for SusE Linux.

Greetings,
Philippe

Which linux distro do you use?
Anyway - as far as I know, there is no linux drivers for built-in broadcom wifi chip; but you can use Windows drivers using ndiswrapper: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/
