There was a copyright concern with the original version of G4l 0.10, being that it was used G$U as the basis for the scripts with a linux system as compared with the original netbsd. It should also be pointed out that version 0.12, was a total new cration not based on either the G4U or G4l 0.10 script, both of which were simply using dd piped thru gzip to ftp. It should also be pointed out that the copyrighr information only appeared on the web page, and was not included in any of the scripts, so if the original author got the G4U from some other location, he might not of even know that anything was in effect regarding the code.

I've contacted the G4U author, and tried to get the issue resolved, and did get one response from him, but he has still not taken the time to examine the later versions, so I'm not going to push the issue. I have added this information and given links to it at boot up of my modified versions of G4L, and give anyone the opportunaity to decide what they wish to do. The G4L 0.14 script was over 2000 lines in length, and uses a GUI interface. G4U is a set of script to feed information to do a DD | GZIP | FTP process.

I would suggest that anyone truly interested take a look at the current code rather than going back to the verion 0.10.

After Login, it is just g4l as the user id with no password

to run the script just ./g4l

The latest script is g4lup20tst but it is linked to g4l

I've also added lzop compression in additino to gzip and bzip, and have added udpcast. I've also rebuilt kernels to include other drives and devices. Only problem I've had is getting raid support for Compac (HP) Raid Systems that are not part of kernel.org.

Thanks.
Hi Chris,

I use partimage to do that kind of job.

partimage is included on kurumin, the one that I use, a brasilian distro based on knoppix. I don't know if knoppix has partimage too.

sites :
kurumin (portuguese only) => http://www.guiadohardware.net/kurumin/
partimage => http://www.partimage.org/
knoppix => http://www.knoppix.org/

I've added some documentation to the program, but am not the author. After logining in, you just need to run the script.
./g4l

ftp://202.128.73.29/g4lmod2.pdf

It is a menu driven system. I've posted a number of updated images to my ftp site, and included some enhancements to the program.
ftp://202.128.73.29

g4lkrn8.iso is the lastest image, and includes the latest version of the script, and a number of kernels to support various configurations.

Latest script is g4lup19tst

I would also suggest checking out the comments at sourceforge site as well.

If you need more, drop me an email.
mikes@kuentos.guam.net

G4L is a copyright infringement of G4U that's why the author of G4L has no valid documentations...

http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/g4l.html
