    <description>I'm wondering if lspci is correct.  I did a bit of looking on &lt;A href="http://www.hp.com" target="_blank"&gt;www.hp.com&lt;/A&gt; and it seems the onboard chips on the BL20P G4 is the NC373i.  I'm far from an expert on ProLiant NIC names, but that one sounded rather "new" which made me wonder if it was indeed a BCM5703.  Doing a bit of web searching suggests that the NC373i is based on the BMC5708, which IIRC needs the bnx/bnx2 driver not the tg3 driver.</description>

      <description>Do a "modprobe tg3"&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The tigon3 driver supports the whole bcm57XX series gigabit chips.  The core chip in the 57XX series is code named "tigon3" and is found as a module "tg3.ko" in a generic 2.6.18 kernel image.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>I've found that the tg3 driver will not claim 5708's - for those one needs bnx2 (or is it just called BNX).  anyway, the tg3 driver _should_ claim 5703's.  Are you certain they are 5703's and not something else?</description>

      <description>I think Rick is right.  There should be 2 on-board 5708 devices plus 2 additional 5708 devices.  I don't know why lspci is identifying them as 5703.  Please provide the output of lspci -xxx.</description>

      <description>Based on the lspci -xxx output, the devices are real 5703 rev B0, not 5708.  So this machine must not be a BL20p.  The tg3 driver is the correct driver for these devices.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can try ethtool -t ethx after ifconfig ethx up to see if the devices pass the self test.</description>

      <description>confusions like that is why I so very much like the HP-UX "model" command:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;$ model&lt;BR /&gt;9000/785/J5600&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I suppose there may be something similar for some of the ProLiant OSes, or maybe one of these days.</description>
