Hi Folks,

I am using a Fedora Core 3 box to be used as an HTTP proxy server for my internal network. The proxy server package I am using on this
machine is "squid-2.5.STABLE6-3".

When I am using Outlook, Outlook Express or any other popular E-mail client software (in Windows XP) to receive or send the e-mail through this proxy, I get the following error message:
"The host 'pop.gmail.com' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly. Account:
[email address]', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number:
0x800CCC0D"

I have enabled the POP and forwarding in Gmail, and I can get my
mails on the proxy machine in Thunderbird Version - 1.0.7-1.1. Also I
can download my mails on other machines through NAT service of Windows
XP (In any e-mail clients). I use Gmail notifier and Google talk
successfully on other machines, through the Squid proxy.

The machine to be used as a Proxy server, has 2 Ethernet cards. One
card intefaces to access the Internet connection from the ISP, and
another card intefaces to my internal network.

So, how can I access G-mail in E-mail client through Squid Proxy Server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Chandan

I've seen this problem earlier. Can you able to access with out using squid server directly.?

You can start a thread in squid-users@squid-cache.org list as well. You will get a speedy responses more.

Shalom Chandan,

pop.gmail.com is a valid pop server.

You need to see if its set up for secure pop on port 995. If not, you'll have to use not secure pop on port 110.

For help on that, contact gmail(google) support via mail.

SEP
