topic nc6170 dual port fiber nic in Operating System - Linux

I have DL380 G3 with 2 Compaq NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet and also a nc6170 dual port fiber. One bcm5703x is connected to a copper lan and runs at 100MB and is fine. I try to configure the dual port fiber to no avail. I also noticed that the e1000 mod is not being load which in the past with other systems I never had any problems. I am running Sles8 SP3
Any hints are greatly appreciated since I am new to Linux

Its not a e1000 card.

The e1000 card is the Intel Gigabit Ethernet which quite easily can be made into an ultra reliable NIC team that doubles band with and essentially provides fault tolerance.

The BCM card is from a different maker. It may be Gigabit, but I've learned that few Gigabit card vendors work well with Linux. I was forced by circumstance to be an Intel only man.

As far as the dual port fiber card, if its not on the supported hardware list, see the vendor for drivers. If that fails see HP about getting a different card.

SEP

bob,

As far as I see on HP site [http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19939.html], HP recommends "custom" e1000 friver for nc6170 NIC.

Did you try original SLES driver or HP's one?

the onboard nic also went bad. I placed a hardware call and they replaced the system board. Once that was done I was able to configure all the nic's
