Compaq NC7770 installation for Fedore linux

Hi,
This is noor from JBS pakistan channel partner of hp..

I need to install the Compaq NC7770 Network card in proliant ML350 Server running Fedora Linux10...is this adapter is plug and play for fedora linux or need drivers??Can someone explain how to configure this card in fedora linux..

There is a hardware list for Fedora at http://fedora.redhat.com

If you would like to know about plug and play capabilities, stick it in a test box and do a Linux install. Thats actually faster than posting here.

I have found the world of Fedora/Linux network card support is a much smaller world than Microsoft. There still isn't the money in the Linux community to support esoteric hardware.

Frankly if the card is not plug and play, I'd get myself a nice intel/netgear/linksys card that will be auto detected and configured.

My recent experience with Compaq cards makes that much easier than making a non-plug and play card do something other than act as a paperweight.

I don't know what the retail situation is where you are, but you now have my advice.

This card should work fine in any recent Linux box.

It's based of the Broadcomm gigabit chipset, and uses the 'bcm5700' kernel module.

If you do have issues with it working out of the box, go here http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/networking/us/family/model/5908.html?lang=en&cc=us and grab the RHE3 driver source RPM, and 'rpm --rebuild bcm5700-7.4.12b-1.src.rpm', and install the resultant rpm's.

the Standard 2.6.x Kernel supports all bcm57XX series chipsets.
Installation and configuration manual is available by accessing:
