hi

I have a serious problem:
I'm using postfix:

# rpm -qa | grep postfix
postfix-2.0.6-8
amavis-postfix-0.3.12pre8-210

on SuSE 8.2
this linux server ns.internal.net is behind
a firewall on the internal (trusted network)
running only with the internal domain:
internal.net without MX records.

at the internal network I have also
MS Exchange 5.5 Mail Server.
Exchange is getting and sending all mails
with a really existing internet domain: external.net

postfix is working, but I can't send mails
from linux, because some mail servers don't accept mails from the server with the internal domain.

and I can NOT send any mails to our Exchange.

any idea ?

kind regards
chris

In fact, this is no "postfix problem", but "mail infrastructure planning" question.

the major question:
How you want to use your mailservers (MS and Linux)?

Many companies use Linux as mail relay (in DMZ) for accepting mail from the Internet and forwarding mail to internal MS Exchange server, but there are many other options.

Rgds,
Vitaly

hi

I don't want use linux for mail relay.

I need Linux and postfix to test some
perl scripts and send newsletters.

And all others clients use Exchange.

kind regards
chris

1) if you need only send letters from linux box, you don't need sendmail/postfix at all

2) anyway, if you want "to publish" your mailserver, you should to add DNS (A or MX) record for yourdomain.com pointed to the external (legal) address of your mailserver.

Rgds,
Vitaly
