Hi all:

Got RH AS 2.1 server on PE 1650.
I have configured with maximum firewall and allow only ssh and http in. I need to be able to query the nameserver I have listed in the /etc/resolv file but the firewall blocks it. Also says to use the ifup-post file to allow for nameserver queries. Anybody know how to use the ifup-post file?

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-post

ifdown-post and ifup-post â Contains commands to be executed after an interface is brought up or down.

I didnt find docs but the script is short and not very complex. Just check what it is doi

The docs are "/usr/share/initscripts-*/sysconfig.txt".

It states (simply) that it brings up routes (using ifup-routes), aliases (ifup-aliases) and a few other bits an pieces.

The last few lines on my RH8 box look for an executable file '/sbin/ifup-local'. If you have sepecific things you want done aftewards, I'd suggest creating one of these.

It gets passed the device name as it's only parameter.
