    <description>if you had no errors during kernel / modules compilation &lt;BR /&gt;be sure that you copied the bzImage to /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-24.8&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and that you've run this command:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.20-24.8 2.4.20-24.8&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Best Regards.</description>

      <description>I compiled 2.4.20-24.8, boot, and got&lt;BR /&gt;ds: no socket drivers loaded!&lt;BR /&gt;VFS: Cannot open root device "LABEL=/"&lt;BR /&gt;Please append a correct "root= " boot option&lt;BR /&gt;Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;/etc/grub.conf&lt;BR /&gt;default=1&lt;BR /&gt;timeout=10&lt;BR /&gt;splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz&lt;BR /&gt;title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-24.8.0)&lt;BR /&gt;        root (hd0,0)&lt;BR /&gt;        kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-24.8.0 ro root=LABEL=/&lt;BR /&gt;        initrd /initrd-2.4.18-24.8.0.img&lt;BR /&gt;title Red Hat Linux (2.4.20-24.8)&lt;BR /&gt;        root (hd0,0)&lt;BR /&gt;        kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-24.8 ro root=LABEL=/&lt;BR /&gt;        initrd /initrd-2.4.20-24.8.img&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;/etc/fstab (related)&lt;BR /&gt;LABEL=/                 /                       ext3    defaults        1 1&lt;BR /&gt;LABEL=/boot             /boot                   ext2    defaults        1 2&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The first kernel entry in grub.conf works.&lt;BR /&gt;Please help.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Jun Z&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Make sure you have include ext3 in your new kernel and make sure you run "mkinitrd &lt;INITRD-XXXX.IMG&gt; &lt;KERNEL-VERSION&gt;".&lt;/KERNEL-VERSION&gt;&lt;/INITRD-XXXX.IMG&gt;</description>
