Hello Bart,

I really think you should try your luck in the
Windows forum over at

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/familyhome.do?familyId=116

since where the profiles are stored does not really have an influence on this (as long as the storage is reliable).

Having said that, we practically only experience problems like the one you describe if users think the proper way to end a Windows session is to power off their PC. Maybe something you want to check. Also having more than one session simultaneously open can lead to confusing results (at least on first sight).

Greetings, Martin

We have a linuxserver with serveral winxp pc's and 2 hp2200dtn printers. When we start using roaming profiles, the printer settings from users are changed to factory settings. But only from users which are using different pc's sometimes. Any suggestions would be very welcom.

Bart,

why do you think it's a Linux problem? (This is a Linux forum.)
Can you give us more details on the configuration, especially printing configuration?

JP.

Thanks for your reaction. I don't think it is just a linux problem, probably winxp causes the problem. Because the winxp user profiles are saved on the linux (debian) server I thought that this could be the place to start handling my problem. The printers are network printers so linux is not involved during the actual printing. Somehow the printer settings are lost (setting as paper trays and duplex settings etc. everything is set to the factory settings) when users change pc's using there own roaming profile. This was the reason I thought it was a linux related problem, but I could be completly wrong about this.
Thanks for your reaction, having more than one session simultaneously open is common habbit for the users with profile problems.
I tried it myself but then nothing happend.
Nevertheless we will make shure that users are going to use one session at a time.
If the problem continues i'll take it up in the windows forum.
Greets Bart

Hello Bart,

the behaviour we have seen: Have session open on PCs A and B. Change property a in A and
property b in B. Close session on A first, then session on B. Login again. The change of property a will be lost, since it was overridden by the profile returned from B later. Quite as expected actually, but you have to figure it out. Obviously even more complicated patterns are possible if you got more than two sessions, or if the sequence of opens/closes becomes more convoluted.

Greetings, Martin
