Hi,
If it takes a long time to ping or telnet, the problem could be in resolving the host as well.

Pls check if ur resolv.conf entry is correct.

HTH
-balaji

Hi,

I have installed redhat linux 6.2 on this IBM machine. Every thing is working fine except, the machine takes a lot of time(about 15mins) to ping a machine on the same DMZ level. I can ftp to any machine on the DMZ very easily with out any problems from this machine.

I can not even telnet or ftp to this machine from any other manchine. Message that appear is :

Connected to 10.0.0.20.
Escape character is '^]'.

Red Hat Linux release 6.2 (Zoot)
Kernel 2.2.14-5.0 on an i686
login: Connection closed by foreign host.

Can anyone please explain, why this is happening...

Thanks,
Deep.

Verify that you have Firewall configured on Medium or None !
This problem sounds like Firewall configuration set on Maximun level.
Let me know !
Roberto

to check the firewall... enter this at the command prompt:

lokkit

it will open up a little menu where you can adjust the firewall. If you have a network firewall, I recommend you disable it altogether. You can also do the following to remove it:

rpm -qa | grep firewall # to get the package ID

rpm -e firewall_package

Ted

This definately looks like a Firewall problem. Since you have given no information about the DMZ setup and any firewalls which exist between your IBM Redhat machine and the rest, I would point you to check the firewall it's self or any packet filtering which might exist on the machines you can ftp/telnet to.
