printing remotely from HP_UX through Redhat LINUX print server

Linux printer server is redhat version 9 and runs CUPS.

I am trying to create a remote print queue on HP_UX 11 that points to redhat print server. If I send the print job from linux print server it prints fine, but if I send print job remotely from HP I get "waiting for LINUX print server to come up". I have already shared the printer on linux server. Any suggestions?

One of the things print queues does is it lets remote users download a correct print driver for the printer its allowing to be shared.

The world of Windows print drivers is vast.

The world of print drivers for HP-UX is much smaller.

I believe you will need some kind of a driver to remotely print HP-UX to Linux, in spite of CUPS/Samba.

can U give me some advice on print drivers? and where do I install the driver on LINUX printer server or client machines ? If I have to install driver in all client machines it will be a proble becaue we have about 200 client machines that will have to print through LINUX print server.

Make sure that cups is listening on prot 515 (netstat -ntlp | grep cupsd), and make sure that your firewall isn't blocking access to this port (iptables -nvL INPUT).

Given your description, it would normally be one of these two reasons that HP-UX's print queues can't talk to the Linux ones.

Want help on the HP-UX drivers?

After checking with Harry Potter's divination teacher, I can't answer your question unless:

You tell me the type of printer hung of the Linux box.
