FTPACCESS

I'm using redhat 7.1 and after I've installed all the package for the ftp server I can't log in using ftp.. I can do ftp from my machine to myself but I can't do ftp from another machine. Any suggestions?

What user account are you trying to use? Root or nonroot?

And the problem was before using any account because when I tried to connect the answer was:
ftp:connect:Connection refused

Hello Alessio:

If you try to connect and get a 'connection refused' it means your FTP server is not running. In that case, check you /etc/inetd.conf file (or /etc/xinetd.d/wu-ftpd file if you're using xinetd).

If you get any other message, please send us that message!

RedHat 7.1 ...

If you're using xinetd (installed by default), check

/etc/xinetd.d/ftp

By default the service is disabled and must be enabled to actually use it.

make sure that in /etc/xinetd.d/wu-ftpd, disable = no. Make sure to stop and start xinetd after changing it.

Another possibility is that IPchains is set up to block it.

can't you guys give solution in one single reply? sorry to offend, your answers are all really very interesting, I am learning a lot BUT 'installment'. Can't you give a straightforward-more-of-a-dumb answer...
im just starting to learn linux, so i hope i dont offend you masters...

I'm not sure if I understand your request. Do you have a question about FTP access or about installing Linux?
Please open a new issue issue for your request so there is no confusion on what help you need and I'm sure that many will try to assist you.

As far as why there is not a precise answer for every question, that is how the forums work. We are all individuals volunteering our time to help answer questions and each of us may see things a bit differently. In the question here about FTPACCESS, there were lots of different responses because it was not perfectly clear from the original question as to what the problem was and the setup they were using.
