Win2000 Pro and SAMBA

Hi,

I have linux RedHat 7.1, I recently upgrade SAMBA to 2.2.3a.
The Linux box can see and open shares in win2000 but the win200 can't see the linux box, and return this error:
system error 51
the remote host is not available.

the IPs are in the same red:
Linux box=192.168.200.200
win200= 192.168.200.102
Linux can ping to win2000 and win2000 can ping to linux.

I try in command prompt using NET USE.

Just wondering, what have you set the 'WORKGROUP' and 'NETBIOS NAME' set to in the 'smb.conf' file? And are you using that name in Windows to access that host?

Next thing to look at would be the logs for smb and nmb (should be living in /var/log/samba/)? Do they give authentication issues, or some other error?

Hello Victor,

In this case, the best thing to do is to post your smb.conf file.

Also : make sure that your Samba/Linux box is properly configured (smb.conf) to use the WINS server of your Win2k domain.

You have to check your smb.conf file located
on /etc/samba (the default directory for RedHat,assuming you've used a .rpm). You may have overlooked some key entries as mentioned by Mr. Browne.
