We have a Symantec BackupExec 12D on Windows server, and its agent on a HP-UX 11.0 box. The agent, called VRTSralus, was installed successfully. But when we tried to start the agent, we got error:

/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't find path for shared library: libhppa.1
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory

I searched entire system, couldn't find this libhppa.1 file. I called Symantec support, they don't have it either.

Does anyone have similar experience? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Andy Z

Hi Andy:

At least on 11.11 its part of the CORE-SHLIBS:

# find / -type f -name libhppa.1
/usr/lib/libhppa.1
# swlist -l file|grep libhppa.1
OS-Core.CORE-SHLIBS: /usr/lib/libhppa.1

Regards!

...JRF...

Are you sure you aren't using some 11.11 version of BackupExec and trying to run it on 11.00?
For 11.00, I only see: ProgSupport.PROG-AUX: /usr/lib/libhppa.a

I can't find any obvious patches for it.

Since you are already not supported, you can just do the obvious non-supported next step. :-)

James and Dennis, you both are right. It is a version compatibility issue, we just confirmed with Symantec that both 12D and 11D only support agent on HP-UX 11.11 and 11.23.

Many Thanks,
Andy
