topic need xconfig help in Operating System - Linux

So about 2 months ago I bought a HP pavillion n5425. I've been trying to put redhat on but I get the lovely message that Xconfigurator can't sync my laptop. So the question becomes a) does any one know the part number or sync values for an HP 14.1" monitor or b) is there actually a monitor manual for HP laptops. Thanks!

Hello Erin,

Just run Xconfigurator and when it asks about the video config, make choose you pick General/Laptop LCD screen 1024x768. That should do the trick for you if you have a LCD/TFT screen.

Regards,
Paga
Well that's the problem- I tried using the generic laptop 1024x768 option under xconfig and it doesn't work (neither does HP 14 LCD or any of the HP 14 inch SVGA things I've tried). . . .this is why I'm getting slightly frustrated that I didn't get a proper manual with my computer when I ordered it from HP. . . .

Not sure if this will help, but check out the Linux laptops page at http://www.linux-laptop.net.
They have lots of hints, tricks, configurations for setting up Linux on various laptops. They don't have the one you mentioned, but you might get lucky with one of the other HP models they have, the N5470 seems like a close match.

Also you can get the specs for the model you have from the HP web site:

http://notebooks.hp-at-home.com/products/notebooks/specifications.php?modelNumber=n5425

Hope this helps.

-Santosh
