mkbootdisk (fpy) when kernel >1.44Mb

I'm running RedHat 3.0 Enterprise 2.4.21-4ELsmp

How do you make a recovery disk (diskette)
when the kernel won't fit on the floppy?

I did notice that now has an option --iso, which will make a bootable ISO image, but my box does not have a CD burner.

Has anyone tried making a bootable CDROM?

Can't you just make the images, transfer them to another machine with a CD burner, and burn them there?

Transfering the iso image to another box with a CD burner should work. After all this is how the Fedora installation is distributed ;-)

I used with the --iso switch
and it did produce an output, which when I
did a on it, reported it as an
ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data.

I ftp'd it over to my laptop, and tried
several different modes to create a CD, but
all I get is one that can be mounted as a
regular CD.

In fact, all the CDs that I've produced act
the same way. Even when I use the "create a CD image" and then "copy CD image to CDROM".

Any other ideas?

Hi Tony,

did you try to actually boot from the CD? That you also can mount it as a "regular" CD is expected behaviour.

One of the CDs actually got read, but didn't do anything.

I admit I didn't do a thorough job of paying attention and logging the steps to how each one was built. Also, I haven't experimented (much) with the CD Creator program.

Do you know (for sure) if I need to tell mkbootdisk to make an ISO image?
