I'll check out the rescue CD - might come in handy for other things, too.

I've looked at Partimage before -- if memory serves, it requires you to still set up your partitons to be replaced by hand. One nice feature of Ghost is that it will automatically create and format partitions - no need to mess around with cfdisk or the like.

It also requires extra work when using extended partitions.

But thanks for the pointers anyhow!

jef

Not exactly linux related, but the system is running linux... I may post this in the Proliant forum as well.

Has anyone gotten the DL380 G3's to recognize an external USB device to do direct imaging to CD/DVD using the recent versions of Ghost?

I can't seem to get Ghost to recognize the device, even tho on my cheapo whitebox test workstation, it sees an attached burner just fine - so I don't think the problem is with ghost.

I'm assuming there is some lack of proper USB support going on where Ghost can't properly talk to the USB device. I've tried several versions of the Ghost boot disk, based on suggestions from the Ghost manual.

Anyone have this working at all?

Thanks!

I would recommend using the SystemRescue CD from http://www.sysresccd.org/ .

It includes a Linux based utility for saving/restoring partitions called Partition Image. You can backup locally or to a network drive..

You can find more information about it here.. http://www.partimage.org/
