Okay Ximian Evolution is a Graphic User Interface. It doesn't provide mail server services.

That is what popmail or imap deamons are for.

In /etc/xinetd.d there are a bunch of configuration files

Enable pop2 and or pop3

edit the file and change disable=yes to disable-no

save the file

xinetd -c

That reloads the internet services daemon

Or restart the box.

Now you can contact the Linux Server so long as you know the user id and account whose mail you want to access.

If this happens to be an hp-ux box, this package provides imap and popmail services.

If you have a mailbox on exchange server and you would like to open it on ximian's client then you must puchase a connector key (exchange connector) first. Then you will be able to connect your ximian as mapi client to exchange....

I do not have exchange mail server here, I just want to import the mail and contact to my ximian.

i try to export the contact to text and import it to mozilla mail, but all the email address were gone.

Ximian is ok, but you might want to try out Mozilla's Thunderbird -- it is a nice email client. I get my email from an exchange server no problem. You can even access the exchange directory server -- it will do auto email address completion when building your to: lists.

I don't have the details, but I remember reading about it. I believe you can not do a direct export from outlook to evolution.

I think you have to export your outlook mail to mozilla, then export/import from mozilla to evolution.

I read through the Ximian support website help, i manage to port my address book to Ximian and Mozilla mail in Linux, I still cannot follow what the website says.
