Hi,

Is there any utlity available like make_recovery in Linux AS. If not, then do we need to reinstall Linux & restore from backup.

There is no specific utility though I believe you can purchase commercial apps that will do it.

You could also try opensource, mondo rescue works for me.

Hello,

depending on what exactly you need to do you might get away with booting e.g. a Knoppix CD and doing your backups from this environment.

There is no make_recovery (bootable restore tape, one of HPUX's most awesome features btw) for linux that I know of. However, there are many alternatives. knoppix was mentioned and it is really good. http://www.sysresccd.org/ with the partimage utility is also good. knoppix also includes partimage.
