Thanks for all the replies, the disc was replaced on Friday by the supplier so there is no problem any more. They are all running at 10k. Thanks again
malvin

I am configuring a netserver with a Net RAID 1M controller and have 3 18 gb Discs, 2 of which are 10k drives and the 3rd is a 15K drive. will this pose a problem running on the Net RAID controller? These have all been supplied as P2473A although the 15K drive says P2507A on it.
Hi there.
You can setup two disks with raid 1 thru 5
and leave one on its own under raid 0 to store data on it, which are not that hot or you get a fourth disk of the same size.
( just my opinion ).
Rgds
Alexander M.
FYI, the array will run at the speed of the slowest disk. I.E. the 10K.

hi
it is not supported and not suggested to put hdd with differnt speed in a same raid under a netraid controller 1si, in fact the different speed of hdd can cause time out on the scsi bus, in the past this problem was well knon with hdd of 10 k vs hdd of 7,2k. So in you want avoid truble, don't mix differents hdd on the same array.
bye
marino

hi
the speed of a hdd cannot be changed, if the speed is 15.000, this rpm are gived by the motor which cannot be controlled .
so the speed nerver could go down to 10.000 rpm
the only thing which can be negotiate is the speed of the communication (U3, Ue, 160 Mb, 80 Mb,..)
bye
marino

I have a similar problem on another HP system.
I need to add another drive to the existing RAID array on an HP Proliant ML370G3, with Smartarray 642 card. The existing 3 36GBHDDs are 10k.
As I can't get a 10k 36GB drive any more, will a 15k 36GB HDD work?

Or would I be better off using a 10k 72GB HDD (and effectively wasting half of it)?

Or have I got to replace the whole lot?

Regards,

John.
