What is Compaqs official oppinion on drives which are failed by CIM and the front panel lights but when removed from the array and reinstalled, come back up as ok and resume working without any problems. We see this quite often but swap them anyway to be on the safeside.

Thanks
Nick

If you really want to determine if the drive is failed, run the Array Diagnostic Utiltiy from the Smart Start CD, and save the information to a file. The file can be viewed in Note Pad and you should notice a significantly higher number of redirected blocks, fialed reads, failed writes, etc. on the drive in question. Replacement of drives that haven't yet failed, but are being reported as failed in CIM are covered under Compaq's prefailure warranty.
