Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the following 9.1gb disks;

Part No. A5285A
Part No. A5238A

I believe that they are now discontinued, but we have been offered both types by a HP reseller and I would like to know if I should choose one over another.

Thanks

Tony

hey,

As far as I know, both these disks are using for HASS. Checkout this:
http://www.hp.com/products1/mpeixservers/news_events/discont/servers/E3000001IE0.html

HTH,
Shiju

Hi:

Both of these drives fit in an A3311 or A3312 HASS (Jamaica) enclosure or in the hot-plug bays of a D-box. Both are 7200RPM 9.1GB FW drives and are interchangable. Given the choice, I suppose I would choose the A5285A but only because the other drive was discontinued earlier and thus is likely to have more hours on it.
The A5285A is a Seagate ST39236LC, the A5238A is a Seagate ST39173WC.
When you compare the specs on http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/scsi/st39173wc.html and on http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/specs/scsi/st39236lc.html you'll see that the A5285A/ST39236LC is faster, a little bit bigger and more reliable than the other.
So I'd choose the A5285A

Marco.
