topic Hard Drive Replacement in Disk

I own a pavilion 6640C desktop and the hard drive needs to be replaced. It would be much quicker and cheaper if I could buy a hard drive locally instead of through HP. I know the basic specs of the drive I need and I want to know if it is advisable to replace the drive with a non-HP model.

If the machine is out of warranty, go right ahead.

Otherwise, if you wanted the drive replaced under warranty, HP or a warranty repair place must do it.

Hi Everett,

Like John has advised, if the system is out of warranty, go ahead and replace the drive with a third party one. you should not be having any problem.

Hope this helps.

Regds.

I'd replace it, especially because it isn't covered.

HP doesn't make disk drives anyways, so have at it!

live free or die
harry

If the drive still runs be sure to ghost it or make rescue disks. This will allow you to reload the drive without a lot of heartache.
