topic Adding a new, stand-alone drive in Disk

Hi

Have a Proliant 5500 with 3200 Array Controller on NT4 SP6a. Current config is Array A has 2x4.3Gb Raid1 drives for the system, and Array B is a 4x9.1Gb in a Raid5 config for data (SQL). Want to add a 18.2 drive to the controller (not concerned with fault tolerance) as a stand-alone, useable drive. Is this set-up feasible and how best to create it? Any info appreciated.

Thanks

There are a few ways to do this depending on your cabling. Will this new hard drive be added into the same cage as the rest?
If so then just shut down the system. Plug in the drive and run the Array Configuration Utility. Then you want to create another array and then move the drive over with Raid0 and then save and exit. Then you should see free space in your disk admin.
Another way is to use the other channel of the 3200 to another drive cage and do the same. If you are having problems or you are concerned please let me know and we'll exchange e-mails and I'll call you if need be.
