Repairing two DDYS drives

Hi,
I have two DDYS 18GB SCSI drives that are making a really strange noise when I boot with them attached.
The SCSI controller card they are attached to fails to recognize them properly.

I have posted messages about upgrading the firmware on them, but nobody seems to know what I should do. Somebody said something about these drives being defective, but thats all I got from him.

I cannot find any information about warranty entitlements for these drives anywhere on this site, and I'm wondering about what the best thing to do is about getting the drives repaired or replaced.

Any help at all that anybody can give me would be really greatly appreciated.

Sounds like IBM drives to me.
Did you ever go to the IBM homepage ?
You can download a tool to check your diskdrives. You can also get an address, were you can send them ( if you still have warranty on them ).

but I already tried contacting IBM about them, and they said that because they were OEM drives, they would not repair them. I would need to contact Compaq directly about them.

I have tried, but they have failed to respond with any useful information about either repair, or the other part of my question which is upgrading the firmware on them.

This is one of the reasons why one should consider buying their disk drives from 3rd party vendors, rather than the big boys. OEM drives generally do not carry as robust or lengthy a warranty.

Most 3rd party vendors buy their drives with 5 year factory warranties, and still offer them to the end user at lower prices than the OEM's.

Sounds like you need to get new drives. It probably is not cost effective to send in those drives for repair.

If interested, contact your favorite 3rd party vendor, or MDL Corp (sales@mdlcorp.com), and see what they can do for you.
