The DS2405 is simply an external storage enclosure. You must attach to it via FC. It has no built-in RAID capability. You would need to add it as an extension to a VA array, or use software RAID (Veritas VxVM) to provide any kind of RAID-5 (or RAID support, period!)support.

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/disk_arrays/disksystems/ds2405/overview.html

It is just a disk enclosure which can be connected to virtual arrays like VA7410,

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/disk_arrays/midrange/va7410/infolibrary/va7410_productbrief.pdf

Or else you can connect it as a JBOD to the system and use software RAID using MirrorDisk-UX or Veritas VxVM

-Karthik S S

It does not support RAID5 on internal disks because there are not enough internal disks to do proper raid. 2 Internal disk limit on that box.

Mirror/UX will work on internals for 1 mirror copy. It will work in combination with Virtual disks.

If you set up your array to present multiple unprotected disks, RAID 5 or Raid 1 will work with the A Class server.

SEP

The 7410 has two modes of operation. AutoRAID and Raid 1+0.

AutoRAID is a system where the array migrates data between RAID5DP storage and RAID1+0 storage.

Yes it does. By default VA7410 is configured to use HPs AutoRAID feature which will keep the less frequently accessed data in RAID5 volumes and frequently accessed data on RAID1. However this can be changed using command line utilities and you can configure either RAID1 or RAID5.

-Karthik S S
