I have a relative old system running HP-UX 9
I had a HDD failure. I have replaced the faulty drive with a newer generation drive.
The system picks the SCSI ID up but I cannot create a filesystem on it.
How do I go about to let my system see this drive ?

10 to 1 odds you need an operating system patch for HP-UX 9.x to see the drive. I've run into this at many customer sites. If you'll go to the patch database at:

http://us-support2.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/screen=wpslSrchHPUXpatches/sid=5c8218970802604075?OS=HP-UX

you should be able to find it. If you'll include the model # of your machine and the version of 9.0 you are running as well as the model # of the drive next time I'll be able to give you the exact patch number.
