Hello,

I have Proliant ML150 with two SCSI Seagate(73 GB) Hard-disk on AIC-7902 Controller. They were woking fine till yesterday. In the morning, when people tried to access it, it was not available. on checking it was revealed that one of the hard disk was having problem.
The SCSISelect utility from Adaptec reports the following,

Unexpected SCSI Command failure
CBD sent: 25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Target Status: 02h Check condition
Sense key: 02h Not Ready
Sense Code: 04h
Sense Code Qualifier: 00h

Please tell me how i can recover the data from it. I have checked the HP site for the sense key information, it just tell me that 'Drive not ready...'.

any help would be greatlr appreciated.

Regards
Tabassum

well, I have placed that drive in another server, but the SCSISelet utility show the same error on another server too.

But when that machine boots up, it shows the faulty drive in the disk management utility. It displayed it as 'Missing' and when choose to reactivate it, it says 'windows cannot locate specified disk'.

How can i check that drive is spinning. the adaptec do not have any utility that test the spinning.

I do not want to opt for the low-level format, as the data is really very important.

an early help will be greatly appreciated!!

Best Regards,
Tabassum

Hi,
I am a bit confused, the disk was seen when you mounted it into the second server, yet it could not be activated.
This either means the disk is not mountable i.e. faulty platter or no power on the disk, but the SCSI bus is still working.
Start the machine up and look for a LED on the drive to show powerup.Alternatively listen for the whine when the disk spins up.
This would then say power is ok, but disk media is not :-(
Regards

Yes, it can be seen but not activated!!!

Power LED was on for the faulty drive. When machine boots up, all other disk spins-up and the status LED blinks but for the faulty drive, the second LED do not blink. it remains OFF.

Regards,
Tabassum

Tabassum,
based on what you have written and the steps we tried I would think your disk is broken.
The SCSI chain is working and the the disk can be seen, power is on the board, but the disk does not spin up.You have tried it on another machine/controller, so its the disk that's at fault.

Unless somebody else has a better analysis, you will have to replace the drive and restore the backup.
Regards
