Doris,

A3312A is supported on 11.00 on A400/A500, L-class (rp54xx), n4000 and v-class.
It is supported on 11i on A400/A500, L-Class(rp54xx), n4000, V-Class, rp8400, rp7410 and Superdome.
Note that rp24xx are A-class, so you should be able to connect your storage to your systems.
In your server, you can use the FC cards A5149A or A5150A on both OSes, and you can also use A5159A or A5159B on 11i.

Archunan

How many controllers does(or can) an A3312A Jamaica have with 8 low-profile 1" slots?
We still have this K580 with 4 disks inside and a Jamaica with the 8 slots. Due to the performance criteria of our database, we need at least 3 disks in this solution running off of 3 different controllers. What are my options? Thank you.

Hi Doris, there is no HP FWD SCSI disk array (that I know of) that will accommodate 3 FWD SCSI controllers / channels, the A3312A only has two channels. Can you just get another A3312A for your third channel?

The A3312A supports a mx of two different controllers, one for rach side

YOu will need to add an additional Jamaica unit if you want three channels

Doris, reading your question again. You have a possible of three FWD channels with the set-up you currently have: 1 internal in your K580 that's controlling the 4 internal disks & and the two on the A3312A. so I guess that would give your three that you need. You would need to get 2 of the HP 28696A FWD SCSI-2 HP-PB cards for the A3312A and 2 drives for the A3312A for that set-up if you don't already have them.

Actually, you could use 4 controllers from the same K-box feeding a single A3312 enclosure. 2 controllers per bus.

For each bus, you would do something like this:

SCSI Controller - Terminator On -- SCSI ID 7
Disk 0 -- SCSI ID 0
Disk 1 -- SCSI ID 1
Disk 2 -- SCSI ID 2
Disk 3 -- SCSI ID 3
SCSI Controller - Terminator On -- SCSI ID 6

In this example, Disks 0 and 1 might be using the Controller with SCSI ID 7 ande Disks 2 and 3 might use the Controller with SCSI ID 6.

This is essentially the same as would be used in MC/SG except that the controllers are attached to the same host rather than different hosts as they would be under MC/SG. Note: You must reset the SCSI ID of one of the controllers on each bus.

hi,

you could do as clay has said, but you are limited to the number of HPPB slots in the high end K's. not enough room for four of them only two, and thats if there not used already.
You could however purchase a 4 slot A369xA expansion card and install upto 4 A2969A FWD scsi i/f on to it. depending upon the processors you have installed.
If you have 4 processors then you can have 2 expanders and if you have 6 processors, again you are limited to just 1 expander. Or you could mix both the HPPB and HSC cards.
The ID of the card can easily be changed by the dipswitch settings on the cards, both have them.
It really depends what other interfaces you have installed and how much redundancy you want.

Just abit more thought on the possibilities

Andy

Yes, you will need a FWD card in your N4000, you can use either the A5159A or A4800A FWD PCI cards.
