Hi all,

I need to configure DS2300 with 4-disks, dual controller connected with two 2-nodes for Oracle Package clustering. Each node have only one HBA to connect to the storage. I need to configure DS2300 as dual bus mode. I have seen the DIP switch on the BCC. But I am confused about full bus and dual bus mode. What is the default configuration of DS2300? How can I configure it as dual bus mode? Can anybody explain it?

Best regards,
Mostafa

Hi Mostafa,

the DS2300 BCC default is full bus, so to change it to dual bus mode you need to move the DIP switch to the right to the "0" position on both BCCs.

Note: if you want the DS2300 to be the shared storage for the cluster, you should set it to run in full bus mode not dual bus. Also you need to change the SCSI ID for one of the HBA's on the servers.

Regards,

Hi Nemer/Heigl,

Thanks. I am configuring the (shared)storage ds2300 as full bus mode to see the 4-disk from both node. But since I have only one HBA for each node, do I still need to change SCSI ID?

One more question, I want to do s/w mirror among these 4-disks. How can it be?

Best regards,
Mostafa

Mostafa,

yes you have to change the SCSI ID for one the servers in order to avoid any bus contention. Also, remember not to place any disk module in the slot that has the SCSI address you use.

you can mirror the disks using any mirrorring software you are using, i.e LVM, because in this configuration each of the servers can see all of your disks.

Regards
The DS2300 only has four slots, so this is quite low risk :)

the disks usually get
ID 0
ID 1
ID 2
ID 3

the controllers could be set to use
ID14 (for host A)
ID15 (for host B)

It would be reasonable to put a sticker
'SCSI ID 14' on the controller as a safeguard, in case the controller ever has to be replaced.
