Anyone remember the swxcr controllers? I have one in an alpha2100. I'm trying to take two JBOD disks (9GB) and make a raid1 set.

We've "cancelled" the JBOD device groups, and built a new device group that contains both drives.

Try to create logical drive, but the only choice is "JBOD", no Raid1 option is available.

Help! 10 points waiting to anyone with helpfuls suggestions. No forwarding me links to the manuals...I've already been there.

-tjh

Are those "9GB" disk drives identical? I remember that there have been one or two models with different geometries which might prevent the ability to do RAID-1.

It should work. The geometry of the smaller disk will dictate the size and the larger disks extra space should go unused. I have mixed worse in a pinch. I attached the pdf of the complete output. Here is what I have on one of my systems:

DevGrpC DISK050 DISK140

Name Status Group RAID Capacity Cache
DRA0 GOOD DevGrpA 1 8678 MB Write Back
DRA1 GOOD DevGrpB 1 8678 MB Write Back
DRA2 GOOD DevGrpC 1 8678 MB Write Back

Channel:Target: 0:5 Device Type: disk
Product ID: RZ2DD-LS (C) DEC Hardware Rev:
Vendor ID: DEC Firmware Rev: 0306

Channel:Target: 1:4 Device Type: disk
Product ID: BD009122C6 Hardware Rev:
Vendor ID: COMPAQ Firmware Rev: B016

As you can see they aren't the same and I don't have the current geometry on the BD009122C6. I suspect that you did not have both drives selected. You should have been offered a Raid 0 or Raid 1 as the options. JBOD is only valid for a single disk selection. The firmware on the Target server that I have presented here is at 2.49, I need to get it at 2.70. What is your firmware level. Since all of my servers are on serial consoles I use RA200SRL instead of RA200RCU. Please tell me that you are using the same programs and not the older swxcrmgr.exe.

The older swxcrmgr.exe should still work, look at RA2000RCU/SRL.exe as the replacement. Things like active negation are supported on wide shelves. But I am sure that you already knew this.

Don

Don, Thanks for the information. Right now, we are using the "offline" tools, since our system is down. (boot disk died). We're trying to setup a mirror before we re-load the O/S.

We've just upgraded the FW, but I don't think it was to V2.70. Again, let me verify.

Thanks for the information.

-tjh

Indeed, we have just upgraded to 2.70. It looks as if the upgrade wiped our configuration, so we'll have to re-build. (argh)

When you mention "both drives selected", we did have them in the same disk group. Is there something else to do (select?) prior to creating a new logical drive?

-tjh
