It is recommended to run checkdisk to ensure data integrity but a workaround is to turn off the system, remove new disk, boot the system, and edit the registry and disable checking of new drive change (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/SessionManager/BootExecute)key from "autocheck autochk *" to "autocheck autochk /k:d *" where :d is the drive to skip autocheck. Shut Down the system, powerdown and plug in the new disk, re-boot the system. The system will re-start without checking the disk so the system is available for use. This is only a workaround and checkdisk should be run before disk is used to ensure data integrity.

Hi,
i have added a new disk to a Raid 5 on an HP Netserver LH3 under Windows NT 4.0 Server.
After the reboot i have added the new space to a partition. Then WinNT tells me to reboot again. No problem, but after this reboot Win wants to run a checkdisk. I have about 50 GB on the harddrive and so the checkdisk would take more than one night. Is it nessesary to run this checkdisk or can i just skip it by pressing space ??? What are the consequences if i skip the checkdisk ??? thx for support....sascha

Hi,

thx for the quick response ;)
But how do i manage 150 GB partitions or more.
I guess in half a year this could be possible.
Let the checkdisk run over the weekend ?
One day a weekend would not be enough.
Is there a better way to manage so large partitions under WinNT ? thx....sascha
