Hi,

I do have a DVD drive on one controller, but the adjacent spare controller is vacant. Based on what you said, my plan is to connect the new drive's ribbon cable to the spare controller, connect the drive to the end or master connection and leave the drive jumpers as cable select (CS). Will this work? Will I still need to activate the spare controller in the BIOS?

Thanks!
Al

My pavilion came with a SATA drive. I want to add an IDE drive and continue to use the SATA as the primary/OS drive. Would someone please provide the details on where to connect the IDE cable to the motherboard, what connector on the cable the IDE drive should use (master or slave) and how the jumpers should be set? Will I need to set things up in the BIOS or will the PC autodetect when I turn it on?
Thanks for any help!

Hi,

As the existing drive used is SATA, you can connect it to any IDE controller either primary or secondry.

You can leave the default settings if you connect it to space controller but if you connect it to a controller alongwith some other device like CDROM/DVD-ROM you need to set the jumper accordingly. If the other device is set to master set it to slace and if the other drive is slave set it to master.

HTH,
Devender

Hi,

Yes it will work. You will not required to enable controller in BIOS. But if the disk do not get sensed in OS then try for it.

HTH,
Devender
