I have 3 questions on the DS2100 storage:

1) What is the largest disk drive that is available for the ds2100?

2) Can the DS2100 and the newer DS2110 or DS2120 be connected on the same interface? Are the interface the same?

3) How many of the DS2100, DS2110 or DS2120 be connected together on one interface? I understand each unit can host 4 disk drives.

thx in advance.

DS2100: Supports 18 GB and 36 GB 15,000 RPM drives, as well as 18 GB, 36 GB and 73 GB 10,000 RPM drives.

Ultra3 SCSI, including Ultra4

Up to three enclosures can be daisy chained on a single channel providing up to twelve slots in a 3U space.

More details:
http://www.hp.ca/products/static/storage/arraysystems/ds2100.php
http://www.hp.ca/products/static/storage/arraysystems/ds2100.pdf

Hi Jimmy,

1) What is the largest disk drive that is available for the ds2100?
73GB 10Krpm &36Gb 15Krpm

2) Can the DS2100 and the newer DS2110 or DS2120 be connected on the same interface? Are the interface the same?

I'm not sure, but seems ok.. ( because DS21xx is just a passive external storage box with a common backplane for 3 hdds)

3) How many of the DS2100, DS2110 or DS2120 be connected together on one interface? I understand each unit can host 4 disk drives

You can connect 3 DS21xx daisy chained - by selecting the enclosure selection switch to A,B,C ( each enclosure must be selected to A or B or C)- So total 12 Hard disk you can connect in one channel.

Remember to put the terminator at the last free SCSI port.

Regards,

Shameer

we have up to 300GB drives for the DS21xx units. There was no size limit for support, only what HP procured for sale at the time. P4621A 73GB 10,000 RPM was the largest, but now we have P4621AoX 146GB 10,000RPM, P4621AoXi 146GB 15,000RPM and P4621AoX4 300GB 10,000RPM

Have a look at this page:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12025_div/12025_div.html#Family%20Comparison

It lists all supported configuration:

divide maximum capacity by 4 and you will get a max disk size of 73GB for ds2100, 146 GB for ds2110 and 300 GB for ds2120.

Unsupported disks may work, but they are unsupported ;-)
