Are there any known probs when using the following cards with a HP Jamaica enclosure? 1. SCSI C896 Ultra2 Wide LVD
2. HP A5838A PCI 100Base-TX/SCSI COMBO

Yes ;-)

Normally, the disks used in a jamaica are HVD, but your controllers are LVD - not compatible.

In rare cases there are SE disks in the jamaica, compatible but too slow.

I don't know your server, but why not looking for a DS21x0 or MSA30?

Jamaica enclosures can use ether HVD drives or SE drives. You Ultra2 Wide LVD card should be able to use SE disk drives in your Jamaica; however, the card will only work as fast as the drives. The card should be auto-switching to what it is attached to.

The single-ended drives in the storage enclosure only go to 9GB and may not be the solution you are looking for. The drives are also very hard to get your hands on since they are sooo old and obsolete.

Do not hook an LVD card to HVD drives, because you could fry the card.
