A6490AE model signifies "Empty field rack disk system". That mean it just rack mountable disk system box without disks in it. Hence it is called box with " no disk integration".

Yes this model supports 72GB disks.

Take a look at the supported part list at
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&model=DS2300&HP_model=A6490AE&modname=Disk+System+2300+%28DS2300%29+%28A6490AE%29&template=main&plist_sval=ALL&plist_styp=flag&dealer_id=&callingsite=&strsrch=&keysel=%3F&catsel=%3F&pictype=I&picture=%3F&uniqpic=

The manual and support information at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual〈=en&cc=us&docIndexId=179111&taskId=101&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=81148

Hi,
We have an HP disk system 2300. Presently, we have 14 36GB LVD 10K disks installed. We want to replace all those disks with 73Gb disks. According to the HP brochure we can, but at the back it says for our model (A6490AE) there is "no disk integration". What does that mean? Can this model support the move from 36GB disks to 72GB disks?

We have tested the DS2300 with up to 300GB disks, the largest available hot swappable SCSI disks available to date, and they work fine.
Always remember that HP does not keep the documentation up to date. They only address what they tested at the time of release, hence the 72GB note.

If you can not take them offline, then simply replace one drive at a time, rebuild the array (Mirror in your case) in between each time. I guess that is what you are asking. But of course backup, replace/reconfigure and restore is a faster option if you can take it offline

Consider to open your own thread next time!

Mirroring only will most likely limit the usable space to 146GB only, because of the VG wide maximum settings.

For this reason I would suggest to build new VGs and restore the data.
