Hi Jesse,
we are using K360, K210, and K260 servers,
I 've seen some solutions for disk upgrade in this forum but the problem we encounter is how we can retreive a specific firmware for a specific disk ,eg we need HP03 firmware (ou more recent) for A3667A seagate disk,
the HP site does not propose firmware for so old disk and firmware,

thanks
daniel

Hi,
we are using HP9000 servers on HPUX-10.20,
and we are looking for a way to upgrade our disks with a minimum level of firwware (especially seagate 4Gb disks) when a new disk is installed in order to replace a dammaged one with the same level of firmware.
In the past HP teams were abled to do this with a CD rom containing the right firmware but now we are working with a new maintainer who doesn't know how to do the update.
thanks
daniel
Hi Daniel, there are several options for you to upgrade your internal disks in the older HP 9000 servers. The first question is what HP 9000 servers do you have?

Hi Daniel, the internal drives for the K class boxes are the older Fast Wide Differential 7200 RPM SCSI-2 drives. I checked and HP doesn't sell them anymore and I would think that they would not provide an earlier version of firmware even if they did sell them. You probably have to get your upgrade as a remarketed disk drive from a reseller such as ourselves.

I have a few 4GB drives with 03 firmware, a 18GB with 03, and one 36GB with 03

Let me know if you can use them or if you have any questions.

Jesse at cypress-tech
Hi Jesse,
thanks for these info, concerning the firmware we are looking for is for ex (ST34572W 4Gb HP03, ST39236W 9Gb HP05),
our reseller is able to provide such disk with the right firmware, but it seems it becomes difficult to find such old componants (in addition the reseller doesn't know the firmware version when he buys a disk, in consequence he has to sort the disk at home in order to find the right firmware !! it 's an expensive procedure !!)so it was the reason why I was trying to find a way to upgrade the firmware,
if you have an idea to get a way to buy these disks with the right firmware or equivalent disk, we are interested in,

note : our hardware reseller doesn't understand why we require a specific firmware, we try to explain that we know (hp info)that some bugs have been fixed from the various release of firmware and that using an older release could bring somme regression on our application which is strongly involving disk acces,
what is your opinion on this (do you know if we could get info from hp on the potentiel regression which could be brought by using an older release of disk firmware),

note : in the past, our hw maintainer was hp, so the upgrade was made by themselves,

hope this helps you to understand our needs
thanks a lot
I do understand your needs, like I mentioned I have the HP disks with the original HP various firmware levels (02, 03, 04, 05..etc) on them. I dont know of an entity that you can download HP disk firmware from though.

Thanks
Jesse Dougherty
Cypress Technology, Inc
Re-Sellers of HP 3000/9000 products
8565A Somerset Drive
Largo, FL 33773
727-557-0911 / fax 727-557-0121
jesse(@)cypress-tech.com
