ds2405 FC disk firmware

I've swapped out a couple bad disks, executed the replace_dsk fcmsutil command, but all I/O to both of them just hang. pvcreate will eventually return I/O error on device, but dd hangs forever, can't kill it. Reboot no help, same symptoms.

Wondering now whether these are the correct disks. The replacements looked exactly like the old ones and they also show in the device listings just as the others: ST336752FC.

The bytes per sector and size values are all wrong and certainly do not match the existing disks in the ds2405. Firmware looks low too, but I've been unable to find a download available on hp's various sites ( even using old itrc threads I was unable ). I was able to get a couple of files:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 1808810 May 25 14:42 PF_DFJHP02HP07.tar.gz

... but after extracting the contents and using stm to attempt the update, all I get is an error from stm stating the file is corrupt. It's not methinks.

Any ideas on maybe why these two disks appear to be dead?

Anybody know where I can get the HP05 firmware for these disks?

Note that each "new" disk is in a separate enclosure and is accessed through different FC HBAs.

Next steps are to remove a spare ds2405 disk module and attempt to reassociate it in one of the slots now acting strange. Also note that the hostname and IP address were changed recently on the target platform, but I'm thinking this should be an issue.

You'll probably have to reformat them so that they are no longer DIF.

Was this replacement disks used in any other storage (eg. HP VA 7x00?). If so, you will need to format them via the CommandView SDM (JBODFMT) which will set the bytes per sector to 512, after which, u can use it as a normal disk in HPUX.

Given that all I/O to these disks results in a hang forever or I/O errors, trying to format them isn't going to work.

Anybody else have similar issues replacing disks in ds2405? I just can't believe both disks are bad, must be something else, but what?

Something like that happened to me. Putting these "poison" disks into a system caused the HBA to keep crashing.

JBODFMT in CommandView SDM will handle these disks & format them correctly to 512bytes per sector.

I was able to get things going after finding a few threads here pointing to the cvsdm download page. JBODfmt took care of one disk, the other is dead.

Still need to find firmware download for these disks, any ideas?

HP07 was the last firmware for this disk. You can download it from below link & use cstm to update the firmware.

I get the same result with that link. The page mentions this file is for integrity servers. I need PA-RISC...

stm output:

The firmware file /var/tmp/PF_DDISKFW0506.frm is corrupt and
cannot be used to update the device.
Obtain an uncorrupted version of the file and try
the update operation again.
