We have an Proliant ML570 server with a 5300 RAID controller that is running windows 2000 and SQL 2000. Currently the server is configured with 1 mirror set for the OS and another mirror set for the log files, this is on Cage A of the server. Cage B is configure with 6 disk RAID 5 for the data files. We want to have the mirror that has the logs put on its own controller to get maximum performance benefits, if Cage A is connected to Channel1 and Cage B is connected to channel 2 of the 5300, how can I get this acomplish. I know i can just put another RAID controller in the server but where will the channel for this controller connect in Cage A that is where I have the mirror set for the log files? if the is another piece that I'm missing please advice. Thanks,

Jorge Rosales
Systems Administrator
Teldata Control, Inc.
Hi,

It's not possible to split the Cage A or B there are only 2 Busses internal.

The only option you have is to buy an external drive enclosure and connect this to the extra Raid controller.
