Controller change from Adaptec to Compaq Smart Array.

Hi,
I have ML370 G3 Proliant Server with Adaptec 2120S RAID Controller. RAID 5 is configured on 4 Compaq U320 disks BD14685A26.
I have Compaq Smart Array 642 Controller and want to replace Adaptec Controller.
Server is a domain controller running Win2000 Server, Exchange 2000 and some other services.

Is it possible to change controller without reinstalling server software? (probably no)

Where can i find any info how to restore whole system withous data loss? Im using ARCServe Backup software with Ultium 215 Streamer.

Any suggestions?

Marcin,

There is no migration path from the adaptec controller to the SAC 642 controller. The SAC would not see the configuration of the adaptec controller. It will require a a full backup, reinstall if that is where your OS is and restore of data from tape.

Verify you have a good backup before you migrate.
