Hi Lars,

Can I ask what sort of server are you running on ?. What level of striping are you using ?

Let me get this straight. You want to run the OS on the 2x 18GB disks and expand the data drives to 6x 145Gb.

First thing, Step one is ok, but you will need to select the SA532 as the boot controller (you may also need to load the array driver).

Secondly, You can expand the data drives (dependant on the level of striping), but it will give you 2 x145Gb un-used space that you will need to configure. This will come up as a second partition. You would need to use a third party application to be able to resize the existing partition unless you are using dynamic disks under windows 2000 ( never tried it).

Like all good techies, make sure you have a current backup.

Hope this helps

John

I currently have a SA 642 controller with the following:
- 2 x 18 Gb disks mirrored
- 4 x 145 GB disks striped

I have the OS on the 2 x 18 Gbs and data on the big partition.

I want to use the 2 x 18 disks on a SA 532 controller seperately and then put the 4 x 145 Gbs on the 642.

I want to retain the data on the disks. Also i would like to add 2 disks to the big 4 x 145 Gbs so i have 6 x 145 Gb. I would like to have that in one partition and also resize it. Is this possible?

I'm running a ML570 G2 server.

How do i load the array driver? Because when i reboot the server it starts Win 2000 fine, but just before the login prompt appears i get a blue screen with the error message "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE".

Expanding the 4 x 145 Gb's i've found out how to do it. I'm going to expand the logical drive and then use MS DISKPART utility to expand the partition.

I'm using a RAID 5 on the 4 x 145 Gbs today with a stripe size of 64Kb.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Hi Lars,

First of all, Have you u changed the boot controller in the RSBU set -up ? should be F9 some point in bootup.

If its still set for the 642, shutdown and move the cable from 532 to the 642 and boot.

You should now have windows back. Load the 532 array drivers with the 532 in the server.

shut down the server move the cable back to the 532 and boot..

press f9 for rsbu and make sure the boot controller becomes the 532.

That should get you windows startup on the 532.

regards

john
