Hi Karl,
Yes, there is a Raid Card installed in your system.
disk 5 0/10/0/1.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE I2O RAID5
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
Your Raid Configuration is Raid-5.

For getting a detailed information on the Raid configuration, login as root
then, issue a command irm at the # prompt.
this will give you a menubased option for viewing the Raid Configuration.

Do not make any changes, without knowing the actual configuration of your existing setup, since it can destroy your entire data in that external disks.

Regards
Raneesh Vijayan

Hi Karl,

I don't believe it has any RAID capability. Look at the following document.

http://h200007.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg29283/lpg29283.pdf

You may have to do mirror or stripe or extent level striping on the OS if you need RAID configuration. VxVM offers more options.

-Sri

Hi
if it is a MSA Simple disk station with out
any Raid Feature only possible thing in this with out hardware raid controller is software based Raid 0 i.e stripping and Raid 1 ie Mirroring or Combination of both by using extend based stripping and mirroring . These things you can confirm with lvdisplay and pvdisplay command.

Thanks for your prompt reply. If thats the case then why is it when I do an ioscan -fnCdisk, it displays all the disk as a single device. We have 4 internal disks and 6 disks on the 2300 Disk System.

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
==========================================================================
disk 0 0/0/1/1.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 18.2GMAM3184MC
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0
disk 1 0/0/1/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 18.2GMAM3184MC
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0
disk 2 0/0/2/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 18.2GMAM3184MC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk 3 0/0/2/0.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 18.2GMAM3184MC
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t2d0
disk 4 0/0/2/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP DVD-ROM 305
/dev/dsk/c3t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c3t2d0
disk 5 0/10/0/1.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE I2O RAID5
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0

You have the A5856A RAID card. If necessary, you can read more about it in the following support guide: http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/J6173-90007.pdf
